Banking

Monday, June 26, 2006
I need some feedback on which bank to switch to. I currently use a credit union here in Mesquite, but I want to switch to have better access to ATMs and things in Norman. I have narrowed it down to three banks I know have locations in Norman, and from what I can tell they each have comprable savings and checking account options.

What I need is feedback if you have had experience with any of the following banks or for you Norman people, if you have anything to say about the branches or ATMs in your town.

My choices:

Citibank
Bank of America
Chase

For example, in college my roomates repeatedly had instances where Wells Fargo would send them letters saying: "We are writing to inform you that we have had a breach of our security that might include your personal information, some computers were stolen from our Atlanta offices. Oops. Have a nice day."

PLEASE give me advice.

Have you looked into Arvest? In every Walmart in Oklahoma, as well as at least two free standing ones in Norman (which takes them to four banks, and an ATM on Lindsey and one in the Union). Very easy.

But, I have no idea of how it compares to your current bank's options.

Bank of America is in 2 or 3 places here in Norman, and it gives you the best chance to not have to switch banks when you move again....

I use Bank of America and it's pretty good - online bill pay is excellent. However, the savings account options are extremely limited. I'm planning on closing my account soon to probably get a Citibank e-savings account - 5% interest! I only get .5% at Bank of America!

Yes, I echo Annie's sentiments with Arvest. I have two accounts with them and it's been quite convenient. There is an Arvest ATM in the Union on campus, too, so that might come in quite handy in your on-campus ventures.

I've never dealt with their savings accounts, but you might do some research.

They are very easy to work with. The Wal-Mart locations are quite handy as well.

My two pence.

why do you say no to Chase, Luke?

J Stu - the only thing about that Arvest bank is whether or not they go outside of OK. the other three I would probably have better chances of staying with if I move away from OK in two years.
